The maiden edition of the Victor Chukwudumebi Achakpo Sports Foundation (VCA) Division 1 Baseball and Softball League which held from April 20-23, 2022 ended in high spirits at the St. Patrick’s College Asaba with Delta hauling medals and cash awards.
This victory was a testimony that Team Delta Baseball and Softball were fully prepared for the Division 1 League Championships as the crops of talented players witnessed at this League is so overwhelming, This is to note that these players have gone through the little league programs which gave the Delta side the edge.
The games before the final were as follows: Rivers 8 runs vs Niger 4; Lagos 17runs vs Ekiti 3 runs, the semi final matches concluded in favor of Delta and Lagos against Kwara and Rivers respectively. While the 3rd place matches was in favor of Kwara 8 runs and Rivers 7runs and the finals between Delta and Lagos ended in favor of Delta with 16 runs to Nil.
The ranking stands as:
Baseball:
1st position – Team Delta
2nd position – Team Lagos
3rd position – Team Kwara
4th position – Team River
5th position – Team Niger
6th position – Team Ekiti
The reciepients awards ceremony was a top notch, and shared in the following order for Baseball: 1. Best offensive position for Baseball went to: Odeyemi Samson (Delta), 2. Best Infielder: Taiwo Alabi (Lagos), 3. Best outfielder: Odumosor Kingsley (Delta), 4. Most Runs Batted- In: Ifeobikwu Patrick (Delta); 5. Most Well dressed team: Team Ekiti 6. Most disciplined team: Team Lagos, 7. Most valuable player: Ifeobikwu Patrick (Delta).
And for the Softball: 1. Best offensive player: Latifah Mohammed (Delta), 2. Best Infielder: Oyekanmi Abiodun (Kwara), 3. Best Outfielder: Bimbo Fagbayimu (Delta), 4. Most Runs Batted-In: Latifah Mohammed (Delta), 5. Most well dressed team: Delta, 6. Most disciplined team: Kwara, 7. Most valuable player: Latifah Mohammed.
The ranking for Softball:
1st position – Team Delta
2nd position – Team Lagos
3rd position – Team Kwara
4th position – Team River
The Softball award ceremony was privileged to have the Honorable Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare make presentations as he encouraged the players, the organizer Victor Chukwudumebi Achakpo Sports Foundation.
