Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani has advocated for the unification of Emergency Numbers Under 112 Service to enhance the delivery of government services through technology.
Tijani announced via his X platform that he had hosted Minister Tunji Ojo from the Ministry of Interior to discuss further collaboration.
Their meeting saw the presentation of the 112-emergency number service solution, which was facilitated by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The 112-emergency number was demonstrated to Tunji Ojo, the Minister of Interior and the heads of various agencies, which are integral to improving internal security and emergency response in Nigeria.
These agencies include the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Fire Service.
Tijani expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting, “We presented our emergency number service solution, 112, to Minister of Interior, Ojo and the heads of critical security and emergency response agencies.
“This initiative aims to enhance internal security, emergency response, and other ancillary services.”
Tijani highlighted on his social media platform, that in a landmark agreement, the Ministry of Interior will now actively align all stakeholders to harmonize existing emergency numbers under the 112 platform.
According to him, this integration aims to transform the 112 number into a more efficient and unified system for managing emergency communications across the country.
He harped on the importance of this collaboration, stressing, “By unifying all existing emergency numbers under 112, we are creating a more streamlined and effective platform for emergency management.
“This collaboration between our ministries is a significant step towards leveraging technology to improve public safety and service delivery.”
This initiative by the ministries emphasizes the government’s commitment to harnessing technology for the advancement of public services as well as ensuring that citizens can access emergency assistance more efficiently and reliably.
