The Nigeria Women Football League Premiership season 2022/2023 kick-off date which was earlier scheduled to officially kick-off at designated venues across Nigeria on September 14, 2022, has now been postponed to kick-off on October 12, 2022.
The Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, explained yesterday from her office in Abuja, that, the postponement in the kick-off date of the league was due to three factors which cannot be ignored by the NWFL board for sake of the development of the game in Nigeria.
She stressed that: ” The involvement of Nigeria Premiership clubs’ players in the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica playing for the Super Falconets of Nigeria, and the engagement of NWFL defending Champions, Bayelsa Queens FC in the ongoing WAFU B Qualifiers for the CAF Women Champions League in Cote d’Ivoire and indeed the participation of 10 out of the 14 NWFL Premiership clubs in the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament in Benin City which starts from September 7 to 17, were the major factors that forced the decision of the League board to postpone the kick-off date.
Modupe Shabi added that the NWFL called for the postponement of the NWFL league kick-off date to give the league board more time to perfect the Club Licensing Documentation for all the clubs ahead of the registration for the 2022/2023 season.
Shabi noted that the Premiership league format which is a Super League that will dovetail into the Super Six won’t change despite the kick-off date postponement.
